Introduction: The primary caregiver of a cancer patient has an immediate involvement in the health of the chronically ill and plays an indispensable role in the recovery of their well- being. Objective: To analyze theoretical aspects related to the vulnerability and salutogenesis of the primary caregiver of an oncogeriatric patient. Methods: Data synthesis was carried out from a total of 49 retrieved publications in Spanish and English. For the content analysis, the results of scientific research published between 2015 and 2020 on official websites of the World Health Organization, Pan American Health Organization, ministries of health were reviewed; as well as in journals indexed in the Scopus and SciELO databases. Conclusions: The necessary literacy of the primary caregiver of the oncogeriatric patient must take into account the development of essential skills that guarantee successful care. The design of an action strategy appropriate to the stage of development, the disease and the characteristics of the family, allows to guarantee the well-being of the cancer patient and the caregiver.
Introducción: El cuidador primario del paciente oncológico tiene una implicación inmediataen la salud del enfermo crónico y juega un papel indispensable en la recuperación de subienestar.Objetivo: Analizar aspectos teóricos relacionados con la vulnerabilidad y salutogénesis delcuidador primario del paciente oncogeriátrico.Métodos: La síntesis de los datos se realizó a partir de un total de 49 publicacionesrecuperadas en idioma español e inglés. Para el análisis de contenido se revisaron resultadosde investigaciones científicas publicadas entre 2015 y 2020 en sitios web oficiales de laOrganización Mundial de la Salud, Organización Panamericana de la Salud, ministerios desalud; así como en revistas indexadas en las bases de datos de Scopus y SciELO.Conclusiones: La necesaria alfabetización del cuidador primario del paciente oncogeriátricodebe tener presente el desarrollo de habilidades esenciales que garantice una atención exitosa.El diseño de una estrategia de actuación adecuada a la etapa de desarrollo, la enfermedad ylas características de la familia, permite garantizar el bienestar al enfermo oncológico y delcuidador.
