The demographic, geographic and urban growth of cities is a clear worldwide trend; however, this is the main cause of the deterioration of the existing built heritage in the city. Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) has an excellent catalog of cultural and natural heritage. According to UNESCO, as of 2018, 140 properties were registered as World Heritage; in Ecuador alone, 3 cultural, 3 intangible cultural and 2 naturals are registered. The National Institute of Cultural Heritage of Ecuador (INPC) registers 103,217 thousand tangible and intangible properties, being more than 26,000 thousand classified as built heritage (real estate). This article, starting from a regional and national contextualization of heritage, contemplated a brief and concise review of different approaches and management proposals for this type of heritage in Ecuador.
El crecimiento demográfico, geográfico y urbano de lasciudades es una clara tendencia a nivel mundial, sinembargo, esta es la principal causa del deterioro delpatrimonio edificado existente en la urbe. América Latina yel Caribe (LAC) tiene un excelente catálogo de patrimoniocultural y natural. Según la UNESCO, hasta el 2018 seregistraron 140 bienes inscritos como Patrimonio Mundial;solo en Ecuador se registran 3 culturales, 3 culturalesinmateriales y 2 naturales. El Instituto Nacional dePatrimonio Cultural del Ecuador (INPC) registra 103.217mil bienes materiales e inmateriales, siendo más de 26.000mil clasificados como patrimonio edificado (bienesinmuebles). Este artículo, partiendo de unacontextualización regional y nacional sobre el patrimonio,contempló una revisión breve y concisa de diferentesacercamientos y propuestas de gestión para este tipo depatrimonio en el Ecuador.
