Introduction: Primary caregivers affect their leisure activities, social relationships, intimacy, emotional balance, freedom and neglect their health, which becomes a process of high vulnerability. They promote therapeutic adherence and constitute an essential support for health professionals in the task of caring for others. Objective: To identify the potential of Psychology as a social science in the promotion of psychoeducational interventions on self-care in primary caregivers of oncogeriatric patients in the primary health care level. Methods: A qualitative methodology was used, specifically the case study. Documentary review, observation and professional experience were used to conduct the trial. Conclusions: Psychology as a social science has potential for the development of psychoeducational interventions, which argues the need for its promotion and thus increase its impact on contemporary society.
Introducción: Los cuidadores primarios afectan las actividades de ocio, relaciones sociales,intimidad, equilibrio emocional, libertad y descuidan su salud, lo cual se convierte en unproceso de alta vulnerabilidad. Ellos propician la adherencia terapéutica y constituyen unsoporte esencial para los profesionales sanitarios en el encargo de cuidar a otros.Objetivo: Identificar las potencialidades de la Psicología como ciencia social ante elfomento de intervenciones psicoeducativas sobre autocuidado en cuidadores primarios depacientes oncogeriátricos en la atención primaria de salud.Métodos: Se empleó una metodología cualitativa, en específico, el estudio de caso. Pararealizar el ensayo se utilizó la revisión documental, la observación y la experienciaprofesional.Conclusiones: La Psicología como ciencia social posee potencialidades para el desarrollode intervenciones psicoeducativa, lo cual argumenta la necesidad de su fomento y asíincrementar su impacto en la sociedad contemporánea.
