The article is the result of documentary research on digital data preservation and data generation and its importance in educational institutions. Digital information has significant economic value as a cultural product and as a source of knowledge, but this generated information must be preserved, without information there is no heritage or culture. Digital heritage is not subject to temporal, geographical, cultural or format limits. But the world's digital heritage is in danger of being lost to posterity, so it is important to preserve them properly so that they are accessible, authentic and usable in the long term, under international professional standards. Data in digital form is the main source of knowledge for our students. The repositories in the educational institutions allow not only to store the intellectual production but also the documentation created by the administrative part of the universities. The intellectual capital of universities must not only be stored but also preserved and made known to the community. It is important to investigate suitable techniques for the digital preservation of data in universities, applying or generating digital preservation models that are adapted to the unique characteristics of universities.
El artículo es el resultado de una investigación documental sobre la preservación digital de datos y la generación de datos y su importancia en las instituciones educativas. La información digital tiene un valor económico importante como producto cultural y como fuente de conocimiento, pero esta información generada debe ser preservada, sin información no hay herencia ni cultura. El patrimonio digital no está sujeto a límites temporales, geográficos, culturales o de formato. Pero el patrimonio digital del mundo corre peligro de perderse para la posteridad, por lo que es importante preservarlos de manera adecuada para que sean accesibles, auténticos y utilizables a largo plazo, bajo estándares profesionales internacionales. Los datos en forma digital son la principal fuente de conocimiento para nuestros estudiantes. Los repositorios en las instituciones educativas permiten no solo almacenar la producción intelectual sino también la documentación creada por la parte administrativa de las universidades. El capital intelectual de las universidades no solo debe almacenarse sino también preservarse y darse a conocer a la comunidad. Es importante investigar técnicas adecuadas para la preservación digital de datos en las universidades, aplicando o generando modelos de preservación digital que se adapten a las características únicas de las universidades.
