Globally, the cycle tourism is considered as an activity that contributes to sustainable development, and nowadays there is an increasing number of tourists looking for alternatives that include experiences based on the contact with local people appreciating the landscape and culture of the territory under principles of sustainable development which has been defined as growth based on a balance between the environmental, social and economic dimensions. This study aimed to understand whether the touristic MTB routes are promoting the sustainable development and determine in a general context, the level of influence through a methodology of case studies based in qualitative research that includes the analysis of information from primary and secondary sources investigated according to the content analysis approach. Our results proportionate information about the influence of cycle routes in principles associated with sustainable development revealing a general insight of the interactions. However, touristic MTB routes in Chimborazo province are relatively emergent and are under growing and further studies are needed to clarify all the relations associated with the process.
