The HIV virus is the cause of chronic transmittable disease; it produces weakened of immune system of the host. The advent of antiretroviral therapy has opened new perspectives to the management of this infection Unfortunately, studies show that among people under this therapy there is a tendency to abandon or change it; adverse reactions are the primary cause of this situation. In this regard, it is necessary to strengthen health promotion actions since the primary care level, where the professional in nursing plays a key role in the basic work team. All this motivated the authors to conduct a literature review with the aim of analyzing the Theory of Model Health Promotion of Nola Pender and The theory Unpleasant Symptoms of Elizabeth Lenz, as references for the care of patients with HIV on antiretroviral therapy.
El virus del VIH es el causante de una enfermedad crónica transmisible, al producir un debilitamiento del sistema inmunitario del huésped. El advenimiento de la terapia antirretroviral abrió nuevas perspectivas en el manejo de esta infección. Lamentablemente, estudios demuestran que entre las personas bajo esta terapia existe una tendencia de abandonarla o cambiarla; las reacciones adversas constituyen la primera causa de esta situación. En este sentido, se hace necesario fortalecer las acciones de promoción de salud desde el nivel primario de atención, donde el profesional de enfermería juega un papel fundamental en el equipo básico de trabajo. Todo lo anterior motivó a los autores a realizar una revisión bibliográfica con el objetivo de analizar la Teoría del Modelo de Promoción de Salud de Nola Pender y la Teoría de los Síntomas Desagradables de Elizabeth Lenz, como referentes para la atención de los pacientes portadores de VIH, sometidos a terapia antirretroviral.
